Repeat Prescriptions – Only Order What You Need

Posted by: Charlie Walker - Posted on:

The NHS in Humber and North Yorkshire spends £332 million a year on medicines –
and £26 million is wasted when unwanted repeat prescriptions are returned. These
medicines can’t be reused or recycled; they must be destroyed.
How you can help:

  • Check before you order – only request what you’re running out of.
  • Open your prescription bag – return anything you don’t need before you leave
    the pharmacy.
  • Talk to your pharmacy team – let them know if you’ve stopped taking a
    medicine.
  • Return safely – always bring unused or expired medicines back to the pharmacy,
    not the bin or sink.

  • By making these simple changes, you’ll help your NHS, protect the environment, and
    stay safe.
