Travel Health

We strongly recommend that you seek professional advice regarding any vaccinations required for your holiday.  This can be provided by the practice nurses, and you must ensure you have your vaccinations in good time for your holiday, for them to take effect and keep you safe.  Please complete a travel risk assessment form and provide it to us with at least 6 weeks prior to your travel so that the practice nurse has enough time to assess which vaccines are recommended for your holiday/trip and there is enough time to safely administer them. This is because vaccines must be administered in a specific timeline before traveling to be effective. Therefore, forms presented to the practice with less than 6 weeks’ notice will not be processed and you’ll be signposted to private travel clinics. The form can be collected from reception.

The NHS provides some, but not all vaccinations and meds you may require travelling abroad.  Vaccines which are provided free of charge by the NHS are:

  • Typhoid
  • Hepatitis A
  • Tetanus/Polio/Diphtheria (combined)
  • Cholera

Other recommended vaccines and medication are not funded by the NHS for travel abroad so you will need to get them privately. These could be Malaria tablets, Hepatitis B, ACWY – Meningitis, Japanese B Encephalitis, Tick-Bourne Encephalitis, Rabies

Please check NaTHNaC and or Available travel vaccines – NHS for more health travel information.

The Avenues Medical Centre does not provide a private service for Yellow Fever vaccination or Yellow Fever certificates. This service is available locally through designated Yellow Fever centres.
